Technology Challenges

NSRI is promoting a shared vision to capture the imagination of the industry, government and academia so that together we can shape a future strategy foir the subsea sector in the UK. Only by focusing on where we need to be can we find a way of getting there.  NSRI has identified a number of technology challenges facing the subsea industry.  These focus on the development of new knowledge, techniques and technologies that will permit cost effective developments addressing the following future challenges:

• Autonomous subsea fields
• Developments in Arctic and other harsh subsea environments
• Developments in deep and ultra-deep water
• Exploitation of mature and marginal reserves
• Subsea management of high pressure, extremes of temperature and corrosive fluids
• Improvements in reliability and technical integrity
